Fågelsundet - Hållnäs Peninsula

Workshop - Focus on Coastal Photography at the Beautiful Hållnäs Peninsula & Billudden Nature Reserve

August 19–21, 2026

Physical demands: Low

The Hållnäs Coast

We are delighted to once again invite you to our popular and classic workshop along the magnificent and partly wild Hållnäs coast in northern Uppland—a coastline that has long attracted landscape photographers with its dramatic light, wind-sculpted beach formations, and sweeping views of the sea.

Over the course of three days, we’ll explore some of the coast’s most picturesque spots. At Billudden, we’ll find soft sandy beaches, wind-swept pine trees, and sweeping ocean views, while Fågelsundet offers a more rugged and vibrant coastal setting where the sea, cliffs, and sky constantly shift with the light.

During the day, we’ll be staying at the charming and beautifully situated Nygårds Herrgård in Älvkarleby. Here, each participant will have their own room—perfect for relaxing and recharging between our photo sessions.

The workshop begins on August 19 with a meet-up at 1:00 p.m. at the manor house. We’ll start with an introduction to the workshop’s structure and then go over the basics of coastal photography. We’ll discuss topics such as camera techniques, the possibilities of light by the sea, composition in coastal landscapes, and creative approaches to developing your visual style.

In the afternoon, we’ll head out to the Hållnäs Peninsula to explore our chosen photo locations at a leisurely pace. After dinner together, we’ll continue photographing in the evening light—often one of the most magical moments of the day by the sea.

Day two starts early, as we’ll be on location before dawn to capture the first light of morning over the sea. After breakfast, the day continues with a mix of field photography and in-depth sessions, tailored to the weather, lighting, and the subjects we encounter. The evening concludes once again out on the coast as the last light of the day paints the landscape.

The third and final day begins once again at dawn, before we gather for breakfast and a closing session together. The workshop concludes in the afternoon of August 21 with time for reflection, questions, and a recap of the past few days.

For those traveling by train, we offer pick-up at Uppsala C or Tierp C before the workshop and drop-off after it ends, to make your trip as smooth as possible.

What other customers say about us

“Back home after an intense and fun few days in Northern Ireland. I was taken to some amazing places. It was convenient to travel with a tour operator who really knows the best spots for the best lighting conditions. Great accommodations in single rooms. The small group size was perfect. I’m extremely happy with the itinerary.”

-Heidi Engström

“I went on a trip to Lofoten with Foto Magica. It was a fantastic trip and very well organized. The group was small—fewer participants than usual for this type of trip—and the photo sessions were very well planned, guided by the light rather than the clock. Mattias generously shared tips and provided constructive feedback. Another positive aspect was the emphasis on safety.”

Mattias had a perfect handle on the weather and the light. For example, when it started to rain, he said we should head to the other side of the island to catch some great evening light for about 15 minutes, and he was spot on. I thought it was just luck, but this happened several times. I’m extremely happy and can really recommend Foto Magica.”
