Bare Trees – Photography Workshop in Uppland
December 12, 2026
Of all subjects, solitary oaks are one of my absolute favorites to photograph. Trees are perfect subjects. This is the sixth time we’re running the “Naked Trees” workshop. During this workshop, we’ll head out into the Uppland countryside to photograph bare trees in the natural light of the moment. We’ll visit solitary oaks, some of the best tree-lined avenues in Uppland, and other groves, while also looking for interesting subjects in the soft light that this time of year offers.
Workshop Highlights:
Guided Full-Day Workshop
Nature Experiences in Beautiful Settings Around Uppland
Personal Challenges for Personal Growth

Join us for an atmospheric photography workshop focused on bare trees, where we’ll explore winter landscapes at a time when nature reveals its most stripped-down and expressive side. On December 12, 2026, we’ll meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Radisson on Stationsgatan in Uppsala for an inspiring day dedicated to landscape photography.
December is a particularly exciting time to photograph trees. The leaves have fallen, the shapes of the branches come into view, and the subdued winter light creates a serene, mysterious, and almost timeless atmosphere in the landscape. During this workshop, we’ll focus our attention on gnarled old oaks and other beautiful trees in Uppland—subjects that offer character, texture, and photographic opportunities.
This workshop is for anyone who wants to develop their visual perception and learn to work more with form, lines, rhythm, and atmosphere in nature. We’ll photograph both expansive landscapes and more intimate close-ups where the silhouettes of trees, their details, and their relationship to their surroundings take center stage. The focus is on helping you see the expressive quality in the seemingly simple and on creating images with feeling, presence, and personal expression.
Throughout the day, you’ll receive guidance on how to use light, compose shots using the shapes of trees, and find compelling subjects even in a subdued winter landscape. This type of nature photography requires both patience and mindfulness, but the reward is images with a strong atmosphere and a graphic quality that often works very well in black-and-white as well as in color.
We aim to arrange shared transportation from the meeting point in Uppsala to the day’s photo locations, which is both practical and helps foster a pleasant sense of community throughout the day. A minibus will be available.

What others are saying!
“So far, I’ve been on two of Foto Magica’s photography trips—first, a full day on the coast in Grisslehamn, and then a fantastic trip to Romsdalen in Norway. Before these trips, I also took a course in Lightroom and Photoshop with Mattias. On the photo trips, you have the opportunity to work independently while being surrounded by like-minded people, and you always have access to professional and educational help from Mattias whenever you need it. I had absolutely no experience with landscape photography before joining the trips. But I learned a lot about photography, composition, and editing; I had a blast; and I’ve been inspired to learn even more. In about two weeks, I’m going on another photography trip with Foto Magica, which I’m really looking forward to.”
