Arctic Lapland & Riisitunturi National Park with Foto Magica

January 27–31, 2027

Physical demands: Low

Join us on a journey into a world of frozen creatures—a world of mystery and imagination. Led by Mattias, this trip will focus on immersing ourselves in the snow-covered forest. We’ll visit a number of locations, returning to them to capture different lighting conditions. Our goal is to return with unique images of an otherworldly landscape.

Important: You can expect temperatures as low as minus 35 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures between –15 and –25 degrees are more common. The area is often foggy, which can create a magical atmosphere when the sun breaks through.

Day 1

We’ll meet at the Rovaniemi airport around lunchtime to head to Kuusamo and the Goiglo Hotel, where everyone will have their own room. Finland’s second-largest resort is located nearby, so you’ll have access to every imaginable amenity. For those interested, there are also opportunities for great skiing and dog sledding, for example.

After check-in and a briefing, we’ll set out on our adventure, which will mainly focus on low-light photography and the sparkling Arctic night skies.

Days 2, 3, and 4

After breakfast, just as the first light of day appears, we’ll head out for a photo shoot. We’ll work in 2-hour sessions and then return for a short break to warm up. In total, we’ll be shooting for 6–8 hours a day. On a couple of days, we’ll also hold seminars on post-processing between photo sessions, so please bring your own laptop if possible.

Day 5

After breakfast and a short photo session, we’ll head back to the airport for our flight home.

The schedule for Day 5 will be adjusted to accommodate current flight times, and we will, of course, make the most of our time in the field on this day as well.

About the Trip

The trip begins and ends at the destination. There is always an agreed-upon meeting point, which is determined closer to the departure date (approximately 4–6 months in advance). For example, the train station or airport where you arrive. If you do not have an agreed-upon meeting point, please contact us at info@fotomagica.net. The trip ends when the final activity of the last day or its equivalent has been completed, or, where applicable, upon drop-off at the airport or equivalent.
