Landscape Photography Theme Nights – Learn to See and Understand the Landscape

Would you like to develop your skills as a photographer and deepen your understanding of landscape photography? During our inspiring online theme nights, you’ll have the opportunity to analyze and discuss landscape photos in depth alongside other photographers.

Foto Magica invites you to a series of themed evenings for landscape photographers, where we’ll meet online via Zoom. Each evening has a specific theme and focuses on how various photographic elements can be used to create more powerful and expressive landscape images.

During each session, we’ll review a selection of photos together and analyze them based on the evening’s theme. By studying both successful approaches and common mistakes, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how to develop your visual style and take more thoughtful photographs.

How the theme nights work

The themed evenings are designed to be an inspiring setting where anyone who wishes to can join in the discussions. During each session, we analyze about ten landscape photographs together and discuss how the photographer has worked with elements such as lighting, composition, and atmosphere.

The focus is on visual perception and creative image-making. The goal is to help you develop your ability to observe the landscape and understand what makes an image powerful, interesting, and visually balanced.

These discussions are often very enlightening, as the same image can be interpreted in many different ways. By engaging with different perspectives, you develop your own photographic eye.

Topics we will explore in the spring of 2026

Each evening has its own theme related to landscape photography. This spring, we will discuss topics such as:

  • The Vast Landscape (March 30 at 6:30 p.m.) How do you create powerful images of vast landscapes? We’ll explore how lines, foreground, and perspective can be used to add depth and structure to expansive views.

  • The Small Landscape (April 13 at 6:30 p.m.) Not all landscape images need to be grand panoramas. Here, we focus on intimate landscapes—details in nature where form, color, and texture take center stage.

  • Light (April 27 at 6:30 p.m.) Light is one of the most important elements in landscape photography. We’ll explore how different types of light—from dramatic side lighting to soft, misty mornings—affect the mood of an image.

  • Atmosphere and Mood (May 11 at 6:30 p.m.) Fog, rain, snow, or dramatic skies can lend a photograph a strong sense of atmosphere and presence. During this evening, we will discuss how atmosphere can enhance the narrative of a landscape.

  • Composition – and Common Mistakes to Avoid (May 25 at 6:30 p.m.) Composition is often what determines whether a photo works or not. We’ll go over typical mistakes and discuss how to create more balanced and visually interesting photos.

Who are these theme nights for?

These themed evenings are perfect for anyone interested in landscape photography, regardless of their level of experience.

You could be:

  • new to landscape photography

  • an experienced photographer who wants to help you develop your visual sense

  • participants in previous photography trips or workshops

The most important thing is curiosity and a willingness to discuss photos with other photographers.

Develop your visual perception

Analyzing photos is one of the most effective ways to improve as a photographer. By studying how different photos are composed, you’ll quickly learn to recognize what works—and what could be improved.

Our theme nights are therefore not only inspiring discussions but also a practical photography course in image analysis and composition.

Together, we’ll work on developing the ability to:

  • read and interpret landscape images

  • understand how light affects the subject

  • use composition more consciously

  • create images with a stronger impact

An inspiring gathering place for landscape photographers

The themed evenings also offer an opportunity to meet other photographers who share a passion for nature and landscapes. The conversations are often as inspiring as they are informative, offering new perspectives on both photography and nature experiences.

If you want to improve your landscape photography skills while drawing inspiration from other photographers, these evening sessions are the perfect complement to our photography trips and workshops.

Registration

Participation is, of course, free of charge. Below, you can select which theme night you’d like to attend. A link to the meeting will be sent out a few days before the event. If you’d like to attend several or all of them, you’ll need to register for each one separately. Welcome!
